What to do if you hit a parked vehicle.

If you hit an unattended vehicle, you must make an effort to find the owner or driver. If you can’t find the owner after a reasonable attempt, then you must contact law enforcement officials and give them all the required information.

  • DO leave a note and/or call the police
  • DO talk to witnesses
  • DO inform your insurance company
  • DO pay for damages (if at fault)
  • DO contact an attorney
  • DON’T leave the scene
  • DON’T put yourself at risk of further injury by standing or waiting in an area with traffic
  • DON’T forget to document the accident (take pictures and video)
  • DON’T admit fault or apologize. Let the police determine fault.
